Quick answer

A standard round at a public golf course often starts around ¥8,000 to ¥18,000 per person on a weekday. Weekend and public-holiday plans commonly fall around ¥15,000 to ¥30,000 or more. Premium resort, championship, and peak-season courses can exceed ¥30,000 per person.

These are broad planning ranges, not live market averages. The price changes by course, season, tee time, group size, and the exact plan selected.

Typical planning ranges

  • Weekday public-course plan: about ¥8,000 to ¥18,000 per person
  • Weekend or public-holiday plan: about ¥15,000 to ¥30,000 or more per person
  • Premium resort or championship course: about ¥20,000 to ¥45,000 or more per person
  • Rental clubs: often about ¥3,300 to ¥6,600 per set
  • Rental shoes: often about ¥1,100 to ¥2,200 per pair
  • Pre-round practice balls: often about ¥300 to ¥700 per basket
  • Lunch upgrade: usually ¥0 to ¥2,000 when a basic lunch is included
  • Separate lunch budget: about ¥1,500 to ¥2,500 when the plan does not include a meal

What the play fee may include

Many Japanese booking plans show a per-person total that already includes the green fee, cart use, and a basic lunch. However, inclusions vary by plan, not just by course. An early-morning, through-play, twilight, or seasonal plan at the same course may have different meal and locker conditions.

Look for 総額 for the displayed total, 税込 for tax included, and 昼食付き for lunch included. A restaurant menu may still have dishes that require an additional payment even when lunch is included.

Charges people often miss

Two-player and three-player surcharges

Some tee-time plans accept two players, while others require three or four. A 2B or 3B surcharge may be added per person. As a rough buffer, allow about ¥1,100 to ¥4,400 per person for two-player golf and about ¥550 to ¥2,200 per person for three-player golf, then confirm the exact plan.

Locker and golf-course utilization tax

Locker use may be included, optional, or charged separately. Golf-course utilization tax also varies by course and local rules. These smaller items are easy to overlook when comparing headline prices.

Transport

Transport can materially change the day's budget. A train plus club shuttle is usually the economical option. A taxi from a distant station, highway tolls, fuel, and rental-car charges can add several thousand yen to the group total.

Practice range

Many full-size golf courses have a driving range or a shorter warm-up range, but practice balls are normally not included in the play fee. A useful planning allowance is about ¥300 to ¥700 per basket, although the number of balls and payment method vary. Some courses have only nets, an approach area, or a putting green, and the range may not be open for very early or late plans.

Floodlit night golf

Some courses offer ナイタープレー or 夜間プレー under floodlights. These plans may be nine holes or 18 holes and can use different check-in, locker, bath, and payment procedures. Dinner is usually not included, and the clubhouse restaurant may close before or during the round, so eat beforehand or confirm the restaurant hours. Also check the last train, shuttle, and taxi availability after play.

Two example budgets

Weekday round near Tokyo for two

A practical planning budget might include a ¥10,000 to ¥14,000 play plan per person, rental clubs for both players, an included basic lunch, and ¥4,000 to ¥8,000 in group transport. The group total could be roughly ¥35,000 to ¥50,000 before any two-player surcharge.

Weekend resort round for two

With a ¥20,000 to ¥30,000 play plan per person, rentals, meal upgrades, and more expensive transport, a two-person day can reach roughly ¥55,000 to ¥80,000 or more. Peak dates and premium courses can be higher.

How to compare prices correctly

  • Compare the same date and exact tee-time plan, not only the same course
  • Check whether the price is per person and whether tax is included
  • Confirm whether lunch is included or sold separately
  • Check whether two or three players are accepted
  • Look for 2B and 3B surcharges
  • Confirm cart, caddie, locker, rental, and cancellation conditions
  • Add practice-ball costs if you plan to warm up
  • For night golf, confirm lighting, holes, restaurant hours, and return transport
  • Review the final amount again before completing the reservation

FAQ

Is lunch always included?

No. Daytime plans often include a basic lunch, but early, through-play, twilight, and discount plans may not. Look for 昼食付き or 昼食別.

Are rentals always available?

No. Confirm club availability, left-handed sets, shoe sizes, rental hours, and whether advance booking is required.

Why is the weekend price so different?

Demand is usually higher on weekends and Japanese public holidays. Weekday plans are often both cheaper and easier to reserve.
